Drivers Urged to Prioritise Vision and Road Safety at Awareness Camp in Shadnagar
Highlighting that excessive speed is a leading cause of road mishaps and that clear eyesight is fundamental for safe driving, the traffic police organised a free eye screening and road safety awareness programme for drivers in Shadnagar. The initiative was conducted jointly by the Traffic and Law & Order wings as part of an intensified campaign against drunk driving and unsafe road practices.
Future City Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivam Upadhyay attended the programme as the chief guest. He was joined by Maheshwaram Traffic Assistant Commissioner of Police Chandrasekhar, Shadnagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Lakshminarayana, Town Circle Inspector Vijay Kumar and Traffic Circle Inspector Chandrasekhar, along with other traffic personnel.
As part of the drive, 142 drivers underwent free eye examinations to assess their vision and ensure fitness for driving. Addressing the gathering, DCP Shivam Upadhyay described road safety as a critical issue that directly impacts daily life. He stated that police officials are consistently working to spread awareness among motorists and the public, in line with national road safety initiatives, to promote responsible driving and prevent accidents.
He termed drunk driving a grave offence and cautioned that driving under the influence of alcohol can cause irreparable harm not only to the driver but also to passengers and families. Urging motorists to completely avoid alcohol before driving, he stressed that intoxication often leads to poor judgment, resulting in serious accidents and fatalities.
Officials explained key traffic regulations to participants, advising two-wheeler riders to wear helmets without fail and car occupants to fasten seat belts. They also warned against over-speeding, signal jumping, distracted driving, fatigue-related driving, and other dangerous behaviours on the road. The programme concluded with drivers taking a pledge to adhere to traffic rules and contribute to safer roads.
