Gachibowli police have registered a case against actor and international wrestler Saurav Gurjar, known for playing Bheem in the television serial Mahabharata, following a complaint alleging cheating and deception on the promise of marriage.

Police detained Gurjar at the exit of Mumbai airport on Friday and brought him to Hyderabad on Saturday before producing him before a court for remand.

According to the complaint, a 37-year-old software engineer from Karnataka, currently residing in Gachibowli, approached the police in mid-August. She had married in 2016 and later obtained a divorce.

The woman alleged that she came in contact with Gurjar through Instagram in 2021 while she was in the US. Their communication subsequently continued through WhatsApp, and they reportedly met in person for the first time on December 25, 2021.

She alleged that Gurjar promised to marry her and provide her the rights of a wife before entering into a physical relationship with her. She further claimed that he persuaded her to quit her job in the US on the promise of starting a business together.

However, whenever she allegedly raised the issue of marriage, Gurjar would block her phone number and distance himself, she claimed.

The complainant further alleged that Gurjar stayed with her between October 2025 and March 2026, including for a few days at a residence in TNGOs Colony, Gachibowli. She alleged that he later left without informing her and also accused him of physical and mental harassment.

Acting on the complaint, Gachibowli police registered a case and issued a lookout notice. Gurjar was subsequently detained in Mumbai and brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant.

Gachibowli Inspector K. Saidulu is investigating the case.

Gurjar shot to fame with his portrayal of Bheem in Mahabharata and has also represented India in international wrestling competitions.
