Price hike should be marginal being a public transport-M.BhagyaLakshmi,OBC Central  Committee Chairperson

Since its opening in 2017, there has been no fare revision for Hyderabad Metro Rail. It is a clean and green mass transport system of Hyderabad city. It is fast, comfortable, convenient and safe mode for citizens of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad Metro Rail has redefined the city in a positive way. It is non-polluting transport and has been reducing carbon footprint of commuters who use it. It is high on punctuality, reliability and overall safety of commuters. Specially during rains and road blocks, festivals, city unrest, metro comes as big saviour for public. We read in the news, Hyderabad Metro ran special trains twice by creating green channel to transport live hearts from Kamineni to Apollo, Jubilee Hills to save two human lives. It is contributing to city’s overall happiness index.

We need an eco-friendly mass transportation system in city and let marginal hike to the fare not be a deterrent. TSRTC has increased its fare. Even Indian Railways introduced dynamic fare which are at par with flight ticket. Even shamshabad airport has got its user development fee hiked.

Metro is already under huge loss, last financial year it had a loss of over INR 1700 crore. Covid pandemic broke its back. Hyderabad Metro Rail is operated by a private party, unlike other metros which are run by government bodies. In such scenario, support is something that we all must impart. With continued loss, metro will shut down and Hyderabad will lose its urban icon.

Fare revision after 5 years, offering all qualities is justified. However, Hyderabad Metro should increase number of coaches and improve on crowding in trains and also price hike should be marginal being a public transport.
