Crackdown on Online Betting and Gaming Apps

Hyderabad I DNS: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a stern warning against those promoting online betting apps, stating that a special investigation team (SIT) with full powers will be formed to curb and ban such activities. He stressed that mere prosecution of propagators is not enough, as online gaming platforms are luring many into financial traps. The government will extend its action beyond the state, targeting operators functioning from other states and even abroad.

Need for Stronger Laws and Punishments

Despite the 2017 law banning online betting, lax enforcement has allowed illegal activities to thrive. The Chief Minister highlighted the involvement of national and international syndicates, calling for stricter laws and increased punishments for online betting operators. He also reaffirmed Telangana’s zero-tolerance stance on other harmful activities like ganja, cocaine, and cockfighting.

Gachibowli Land Controversy: Government Sets the Record Straight

Addressing concerns about Gachibowli land, Revanth Reddy clarified that the disputed land does not belong to Central University but was earlier allotted to a fraudulent company, IMG Bharat. The Congress government in 2006 revoked the allocation, but the legal battle continued for 25 years. Upon assuming office, the current government fought and won the case in the Supreme Court, reclaiming the land and allocating it to TGIIC for planned industrial and IT development.

Future City Development for Telangana’s Growth

The government is committed to building a sustainable Future City that aligns with net-zero emissions rather than polluting industries. Revanth Reddy assured that industries will be developed responsibly, considering the welfare of those losing land due to acquisitions. He emphasized that providing compensation and ensuring employment opportunities for affected families remains a top priority.
