Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday turned the Jubilee Hills bypoll into a prestige battle, presenting it as a test not only for his government but also for the Congress party.

Addressing street-corner meetings in Borabanda and Erragadda, Revanth made a passionate appeal to voters, especially women and minorities, urging them to “give just one chance” to the Congress to implement Rs 3,000 crore worth of development works and welfare schemes that he claimed the BRS and BJP had failed to deliver over the past decade.

Portraying the by-election as a larger ideological clash, he said, “This is not a contest between Maganti Sunitha and Naveen Yadav. It’s between KCR-Modi on one side and Revanth-Rahul Gandhi on the other.”

Revanth reminded voters of his promise to induct former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin as minister despite his electoral defeat, and criticized previous regimes for failing to address public grievances. He urged support for Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, describing him as a “local lad who grew up among you” and promising new cement roads, improved water supply, better drainage, and issuance of ration cards if elected.

Targeting BRS and BJP, Revanth alleged that the two parties were working together. “KCR supported BJP on the triple talaq bill and key national elections. Modi and Amit Shah promised to scrap the 4% Muslim quota — and KCR stood with them,” he said, calling the BRS-BJP relation a “Fevicol bond.”

Revanth also made a strong appeal to women voters, questioning KTR’s moral authority to seek votes on the basis of sentiment and highlighting the lack of women representation in past BRS cabinets. He announced welfare measures, including fine rice, 200 units of free electricity, subsidized gas cylinders, ration cards, and interest-free loans for women, along with a future package for auto drivers.

Capping off his roadshow, the CM vowed to honour the legacy of the late Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy, by naming the Borabanda crossroads after him and installing his statue. He urged voters to make Naveen Yadav a leader like PJR, promising dedicated service to the people.
