A new life is the greatest blessing! Recognizing the importance of a healthy start, the World Health Organization (WHO) has dedicated World Health Day 2025 to the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.” This year’s spotlight is on improving maternal and newborn health, with a mission to ensure every mother and child receives the care they need for a bright and healthy future.

Every two minutes, a mother dies due to pregnancy-related complications, while over 2.5 million newborns do not survive past their first 28 days. Most of these heartbreaking losses stem from preventable causes such as inadequate healthcare, poor nutrition, and unhygienic delivery conditions. Addressing these challenges is critical to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates across the globe.

Dr Shabnam Raza Akther, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, emphasized, “A mother’s health is the foundation of a family and society. From prenatal care to safe delivery and postpartum support, every step matters. When we invest in a mother’s well-being, we secure the health of the next generation.”

She advised expectant mothers to attend regular prenatal check-ups, consume a balanced diet rich in iron, folic acid, and vitamins, and stay active with pregnancy-safe exercises. Dr Akther also highlighted the importance of vaccinations and prompt medical attention for any abnormal symptoms such as severe pain or dizziness. Managing mental well-being through emotional support and stress-relief practices is equally vital for a smooth pregnancy and recovery.

In support of this mission, CARE Hospitals has launched advanced neonatal care units and is conducting maternal-infant health camps to reach underserved areas. These initiatives aim to improve access to quality care and raise awareness among communities. Experts call for collaborative efforts from healthcare providers, government agencies, and local communities to bridge gaps in maternal healthcare.

This World Health Day, CARE Hospitals encourages every mother to prioritize her health, seek regular medical guidance, and nourish both body and mind. Because a healthy mother is the first step towards a healthier world.
