District Collector C. Narayana Reddy urged people to take inspiration from the life and ideals of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram and work towards building a more equal and just society.

He was speaking at the 119th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram held at Nampally in Hyderabad on Sunday. Paying rich tributes to the veteran leader, the Collector said Dr. Jagjivan Ram dedicated his life to fighting social discrimination, injustice, and safeguarding the rights of the oppressed and marginalized sections.

Highlighting his contributions to the nation, C. Narayana Reddy said Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram served as Union Labour Minister in the early years of independent India and later held important portfolios such as Agriculture and Defence. He also played a vital role in national politics as Deputy Prime Minister, rendering exceptional service to the country.

The Collector said Dr. Jagjivan Ram remained committed to public welfare for nearly five decades and earned lasting respect as a leader who worked relentlessly for social justice and the upliftment of Dalit communities. He noted that Dr. Jagjivan Ram followed the path shown by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and was instrumental in strengthening the implementation of reservations for Dalits.

Calling him a statesman of rare vision and commitment, the Collector said his services as Labour, Agriculture, and Defence Minister, along with his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister, remain unforgettable in the country’s history. He appealed to everyone to collectively strive for the fulfilment of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram’s ideals and continue working for the empowerment of weaker sections.

District Scheduled Castes Development Officer Rama Rao, leaders of Dalit organisations, and others participated in the programme.
