Legal Awareness and Jan Sunwaii Programme on Women’s Safety Held
The Legal Aid Society of ICFAI Law School, IFHE, Hyderabad, organised a Legal Awareness and Jan Sunwaii programme on women’s safety and protection on February 3, 2026. The programme was conducted at the Gopalpet Mandal Parishad Office in Gopalpet Mandal of Wanaparthy district with the aim of spreading awareness about women’s legal rights and available support systems.
The event was attended by Smt. Rajani, Senior Civil Judge and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Wanaparthy district, and Dr. Ayesha Anjum, Mandal Parishad Development Officer, Gopalpet Mandal. Women Sarpanch, ward members, and ASHA workers from the mandal participated actively, contributing to meaningful discussions during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. Rajani elaborated on constitutional safeguards for women and explained important laws related to the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace and the PCPNDT Act. She also highlighted the free legal aid services offered by the District Legal Services Authority and shared contact details, including the district office number 08543-2202250 and the toll-free number 15100.
Members of the Legal Aid Society made poster presentations on laws addressing dowry harassment and dowry deaths. They also explained how to access emergency and support services such as the Emergency Response Support System (112), Women Helpline (181), and One Stop Centres. In addition, the students briefed participants on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, particularly in relation to sexual offences and dowry-related matters.
A major highlight of the programme was a street play performed by the Legal Aid members on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The performance simplified the legal procedures involved in registering complaints, securing protection orders, and dealing with domestic violence cases, making the law easier to understand for the audience.
During the interactive session, the Women Sarpanch raised several questions regarding the legal provisions discussed and appreciated the initiative taken by ICFAI Law School students in promoting legal awareness at the grassroots level. The programme was organised with financial assistance from IFHE Management as part of its efforts to enhance legal literacy and empower women across Telangana.
