Doctors at SLG Hospitals save life of a man with ‘no blood flow to the heart’ condition
Doctors at SLG Hospitals, one of the leading healthcare facilities in the city, today announced they have saved life of a 46-year-old man who had absolutely ‘no blood supply to his heart’! Diagnosed as triple vessels disease, the victim was suffering from blockage of all vessels that stopped blood from flowing into the heart, which led to drastic fall in its pumping capacity.
G Srinivas, a resident of Bhimavaram town in Andhra Pradesh, was brought to SLG Hospitals in a dire health condition. Considering patient’s fragile health condition, he had little hope of survival, and was even suffering from valve leakage. Unfortunately, the patient did not receive right diagnosis or treatment at non-super specialty healthcare facilities he approached before situation turned grave and had to be rushed to Hyderabad.
Commenting on his patient’s condition and treatment administered, G Sudheer, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon, SLG Hospitals said, “On his arrival at our hospital, patient was rushed in for angiogram and other critical tests. Even while he was undergoing complete assessment of his health condition, patient suffered two cardiac arrests and was resuscitated twice. Post which, the patient was posted for a bypass surgery in which all three blood vessels which got blocked were treated, and blood flow to the heart was resurrected. An 8 cms long blockage (the longest blockage known in these parts of the World) was removed from the vessels which stopped blood supply completely.”
“Normally, a heart pumping capacity is in the 60-65% range, while it fell to just 20% in this case. After bypass surgery, the patient started receiving blood in his heart and its pumping capacity increased to 40%, which stabilized his condition. The patient was kept under observation for seven days, before discharging him from the hospital. A follow up assessment of the patient’s heart health was performed today, and he is doing fine,” added Dr. M Bhanu Kiran Reddy, Cardiologist, SLG Hospitals. Both these doctors were ably supported by J Srinivas, Sr. consultant & HOD Critical care, Dr. Manasa, cardiac Anesthesiologist; and well-trained nursing staff.
A completely blocked blood vessel causes heart attack, and classic symptoms of his condition are a severe chest pain, pressure in the arm and shoulder region, breathlessness, sweating, and nausea or fatigue. Regular smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, uncontrolled diabetes, obesity, along with a family history of heart ailments must be seen as warning signs. And those who fall in this category must try to lead an active and stress-free life to avoid sudden complications. Such a complex procedure was performed at SLG Hospital under Aarogyasri scheme, with patient not having to spend for the surgery.
