In Her Words
Mountaineering is an adventure sport where expecting unexpected things, this Manasalu experience is completely different to me because it’s my second above 8000mt climbing.
Experienced a lot of unexpected things in this expedition I just want to share with you all.
I also trust on “Train at higher levels of intensity and in more demanding environments than you'll be facing when you climb”
I always wanted to experience & climb in extreme conditions in the mountains to know that whether my body is acceptable for those conditions or not. I Choose the mountains to be Climbed accordingly and I’ll prepare my own wish list what next to be climbed. That is the reason I climbed Mount Elbrus in winter, climbed Mount Everest and now Mt. Manaslu. Mount Elbrus taught me that I can survive in extreme cold temperature of -45° and jet stream winds of 60kilometre per hour wind speed.
Present climb of Mt.Manaslu is completely different experience, with Avalanches, Injured people stalking in avalanches , Extreme wind conditions for very long days every day snowfall.
I started over first rotation to Camp1(5,400mtr) and plan was to climb up to camp2 (5,800mtr) and come back to camp1 for sleep. I have seen lot of big crevasses, walking on a sharp ridge with deepest valley, for almost half an hour Due to heavy snow Crevasses are getting Temporary closed.
After taking four days rest in base camp,we started for summit push around morning 7 o’clock to camp 2, next day to camp 3. We reached camp 3 around 11 AM, and planning for next day summit plan.
A big sound came from between camp 3and camp 4 climbing route with a big avalanche. 14 climbers were there got into avalanche zone, and in front of us people falling from that high in to crevasses. After half an hour all the Sherpa’s who are in camp three went for Rescue. Finally, two people died, four people were injured, four Sherpa’swere rescued and brought to camp3 for first aid. It is around 12o’clock 70% of the clients and their Sherpa returned back to base camp, considering safety.
Only few climbers with Sherpa’s decided to go next day for Summit push. I don’t want to give up without trying,so on 27th evening we started for summit push. I know it is hard day from camp 3,Which is almost 7100m to summit. Only 15 climbers with their Sherpa.
Several big teams went back to the lower camps considering safety. It wasvery hard to pull the rope from almost 3 feet deep snow, we climbed in deep snow, till camp 4.
I changed the oxygen Cylinder from here and started climbing towards summit around 2 o’clock midnight under heavy snowfall. After crossing serval obstacles, we reached TRUE Summit of Mt Manalsuaround 9:30 am on 28th September.
This expedition gave me the confidenceand different experience of climbing, not only Passion for climbing the mountain but also one should be dedicated enough to climb. One able to see all the unexpected conditions in the mountains like avalanche, dead bodies and expected weather conditions, I prepared mentally, physical.
I am very much thank full to my coach and the rock climbing school for preparing me physically and mentally to handle such extreme conditions and climbing safely.
