In an era where compassion often seems rare, Uday Sundar Kolapalli stands as a living embodiment of service and selflessness. Hailed as a Kaliyuga Danakarna, this 80-year-old philanthropist has touched thousands of lives, having donated over ₹1.5 crore towards causes supporting the homeless, destitute, orphans, accident victims, single mothers, and students trapped in poverty.
Born on August 2, 1944, in Machilipatnam, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, Uday Sundar was the eldest child of Kolapalli Koteswara Rao and Lakshmi Brindavanamma. From a modest background—his father a daily wage worker and his mother a homemaker—he rose through sheer determination, completing engineering and later serving in the electricity department for 31 years with honesty and integrity.
Never once involved in corruption, Uday Sundar opted for voluntary retirement with a clean record. Throughout his life, he remained committed to aiding those in need—quietly, consistently, and unconditionally. His wife Kamala Uday Sundar has been a constant pillar of support, never hindering his path of service. Even their two daughters, despite settling in the US, continue to back his philanthropic mission.
Even after moving to America post-retirement, Uday Sundar returns to India each year, particularly to the Telugu states, where he identifies and supports the neglected and suffering. His contributions span across aged homeless individuals, orphaned children, patients struggling with chronic illnesses, and students yearning for education.
A unique facet of his service is how he empowers beneficiaries—transforming recipients of aid into future volunteers. He believes that even those who may not have money should contribute through effort, time, and humanity. “If not wealth, at least offer your presence to serve others,” he says.
On the eve of his 81st birthday, prayers abound from every life he’s touched. Devotees invoke Lord Sri Ramachandra, in whom Uday Sundar places immense faith, to bless this noble soul with 100 years of good health and continued service.
